About Water Pages

Water Pages is an independent resource about domestic water in the United Kingdom — meters and bills, what is in the water, how much of it there is, and who is accountable for the industry that supplies it.

Why it exists

Households in England and Wales are served by regional monopolies. There is no switching, no shopping around, and no taking your custom elsewhere. The organisation with the fullest picture of a household's water is the one sending the bill, and it cannot be a neutral adviser on questions it earns from either way. That is a structural fact rather than an accusation, and it is the gap this site exists to fill.

How it is paid for

Water Pages expects to earn commission on products it recommends, and where that happens it will be stated on the page it happens on. It does not take payment from water companies. It does not sell placement, sponsored articles, paid comparison entries or position in any guide. A manufacturer is welcome to submit technical data for editorial consideration on the same terms as anyone else: no fee in either direction, no promise of publication, and no sight of what gets written before it appears.

The reason is self-interested as much as principled. The independence is the only thing that makes a comparison here worth reading, and the day it is for sale the site stops being worth anybody's time.

How figures are handled

Tariffs, allowances and regulatory limits are set regionally and change annually. Water Pages does not publish one without its source and the date it was read. Where a company or an executive is named in connection with pay, performance or pollution, the public record it came from is linked so the reader can check it.

What it cannot do

• Access, view or change anybody's water account
• Fit, read or repair a meter
• Give legal advice, or advice on an individual complaint

For anything account-specific the supplier is the only route, and for a complaint that has exhausted the supplier's own process there is a statutory route beyond it.
